Cost of Participation

Participation on Maryland Madness teams requires a significant time and financial commitment. Costs to Maryland Madness include uniform purchase costs, gym rental fees, league/tournament fees, insurance, and equipment expenses. These costs are unavoidable and are essential to maintaining a high quality youth basketball program.

The costs to each team will be the true expenses of Maryland Madness for that team plus its pro rata share of organizational expenses (e.g. insurance for tournaments). Maryland Madness is a not-for-profit entity and therefore passes its direct costs along to the teams. The costs for each team are then passed along to each player on a pro rata basis. While fundraising efforts by team parents and the organization itself, including hosting tournaments, may defray some of these costs, parents can generally expect, at a minimum, to pay between $150-250 in the Fall and then again in the Spring/Summer.

That being said, it has been a long standing policy of Maryland Madness that no child will be denied an opportunity to participate on a Maryland Madness team based solely on his parents' or legal guardian's inability to pay such expenses. Toward that end, Maryland Madness has developed a program regarding crediting volunteer work towards these costs, payment plans, and, if absolutely necessary, the awarding of full or partial scholarships covering the basic participation costs (uniform, gym rental fees, league/tournament fees) based on documented need.
