Tryout Information

Updated Winter 2008 Information

Maryland Madness has a long tradition of qualifying teams for and competing at the national AAU level. Furthermore, not only do we qualify for these championships but our teams excel nationally. For example, in 2006, our 17u team led by head coach and former NBA and University of Maryland great Buck Williams, captured their third consecutive (as 15u, 16u and 17u) top 10 national finish in Division I play. In 2008, our 16u team advanced out of pool play in the 2008 AAU Division I National Championships while our 9u team competed in the AAU Division I National Championships.

We look forward to having you or your son tryout for one of our teams. Tryouts are usually very competitive and there are a limited number of players that can be selected for a team - generally 11-12. Tryouts are not a judgment of your child's ultimate ability to play basketball at a high level. Kids can and do develop their games at all different ages. What is today may not be tomorrow. If your son loves to play basketball, there are many opportunities at all levels to stay involved. Please speak with our coaches about other opportunities should your son not be selected for one of our teams. Please read the tryout hints below to help maximize your chances of making one of our teams.

Good luck! We look forward to seeing you at our tryouts.

You should directly contact the age appropriate coach if you have missed tryouts and are still interested in trying out for the team.

Please complete and bring the following documents to your first tryout.

Tryout Hints ...

1. Be on time - on time means to be ready to play five minutes before practice begins.

2. Listen carefully to all instructions given during tryouts.

3. Hustle at all times. Effort always counts.

4.  Be ready to attack the next play rather than think about the last play - good or bad.

5. Respect fellow players and the coaches at all times.

6. Leave all selfish play at home. Be a team player first.

7. Display a positive attitude in actions and words.
